Assistant Pop Slinger
Company Description- MI POPS uses Michigan fruits, sweeteners and ingredients to make the bomb-diggity, best-handcrafted ice pops in the Mitten State! We vend at all the major farmer’s markets in the Lansing area & love our customers. And we are growing & need to add an assistant pop slinger for the 2016 market season.
Job Description- If you love people of all ages, can stand on your feet, smile and talk all while serving ice pops than we want to hear from you. Are you an outgoing, super-friendly, goal-driven, self-starter who wants to spend your days talking about Michigan fruits, Michigan agriculture and delish ice pops?
-Arrive on time, set up and break down a market tent, table and signs & be ready for the market on time. Represent MI POPS according to the culture and ethos of the company at markets, events, or festivals.
-Be able to multitask with charm and have a “no sweat under pressure” behavior while slinging pops.
The pop slinger that takes this part-time position MUST be available on SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS (but not every one) and occasionally a WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY. This position is seasonal from May to mid October but training will start ASAP so the right person is trained correctly. You will have the majority of your schedule for the whole season by March. Hours will vary from 5-45 hours a month during the season depending on your availability.
Occasional work in the kitchen preparing fruit after farm visits.
-Passion to work hard and enjoy what you’re doing. Be a juggler, gatekeeper and magician all in one.
-You have at least one year of sales/retail/person to person work experience and/or fantastic internships under your belt.
-You are gregarious and would love to spend your days talking about Michigan, local foods and ice pops.
-You are extremely self-motivated and able to juggle multiple projects + tasks efficiently
-You are a terrific team player, and are comfortable asking questions yet work independently and solve problems solely without worry.
-Have solid transportation to get to the markets or kitchen, able to lift 25 pounds, able to set up and break down a market tent safely, counting change and using a credit card system.
What your typical day might look like:
-Setting up and breaking down for a market and being ready to actively smile & sell the whole market.
-Make conversation and count change in a fun, fast-paced environment dealing with many, many different people from 2 years old to 95 years old. Understanding how to communicate with a variety of customers. Be able to answer general questions about gluten- free, local economy, GMO’s, Michigan agriculture and anything in between (training will be provided).
-Be prepared to work in a variety of farmer’s market (inside or outside), festivals (inside or outside), weddings (inside or outside), or food truck rallies (inside or outside). Some markets run rain or shine.
Work in the heat and humidity of Michigan’s summers as well as the variety of rain, snow, sleet or blazing sun. Taking photos and posting to FB and Instagram while at markets, festivals and weddings.
A chance to work in a fast-paced start-up at the ground level.
Fun working environment with a team of bright and enthusiastic coworkers. One free ice pop per market worked (or every four hours).
Reimbursement of one massage a month for those that worked over 20 hours/month.
